Empowerment & Encouragement

What is Peer Support?

Peer support is a collaborative and empathetic relationship in which individuals with shared life experiences provide emotional, social, and practical support to one another. It’s based on the principle of mutuality, where peers help each other navigate challenges, build resilience, and work toward personal growth. Peer supporters often have lived experiences in areas such as mental health challenges, recovery from addiction, grief, or life transitions, which enables them to connect deeply with those they support.

Peer support is a powerful, accessible way to address life’s challenges through connection and mutual understanding. While it shares commonalities with therapy and coaching, its unique emphasis on shared experiences and mutual empowerment makes it a distinct and valuable approach for fostering personal growth and emotional resilience. Each method has its place, depending on the individual’s needs and goals.

Trained and vetted peer supporters who’ve already experienced what you’re going through are ready to connect and provide empowerment & support.

Skyler Health’s peer supporters are people who've been there. It is a community where you get affordable, practical guidance from someone who has shared life experience and has successfully overcome challenges you are facing. A peer supporter is someone sharing their specific lived experience to help others who are going through a similar situation. Our peer supporters help you get through what you're going through. All peer supporters receive training in meeting your needs, active listening, effective support methods and crisis management, and must pass an assessment before offering check-ins.
