What is Peer Support?
Peer support is a collaborative and empathetic relationship in which individuals with shared life experiences provide emotional, social, and practical support to one another. It’s based on the principle of mutuality, where peers help each other navigate challenges, build resilience, and work toward personal growth. Peer supporters often have lived experiences in areas such as mental health challenges, recovery from addiction, grief, or life transitions, which enables them to connect deeply with those they support.
Peer support is a powerful, accessible way to address life’s challenges through connection and mutual understanding. While it shares commonalities with therapy and coaching, its unique emphasis on shared experiences and mutual empowerment makes it a distinct and valuable approach for fostering personal growth and emotional resilience. Each method has its place, depending on the individual’s needs and goals.
