My name is Kelly Anderson, I'm a 34-year-old woman from San Diego and a blessed mother of 3 awesome kids.  I am a certified Medi-Cal and nationally certified Peer Support Specialist.  I trained for my certifications with National Alliance on Mental Illness (N.A.M.I. San Diego) for youth and adults, the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (N.A.A.D.A.C., the Association for Addiction Professionals), and crisis counselor training through Crisis Text Line.

I myself, have firsthand lived experience in recovery from multiple substance use and mental health challenges/diagnoses, sheltered & unsheltered homelessness, domestic violence, the criminal justice and child welfare systems, as well as navigation of relationships with others who may be experiencing such challenges.

What can members expect to take away from sessions with you?

Members can expect our first one-on-one session to be comparable to meeting an open-minded new friend with much in common, while maintaining the utmost professional boundaries and adhering to strict HIPAA privacy standards.  I can assist with re-defining help as a process of growth, self-discovery, and acceptance.  I will approach every conversation from a culturally competent, trauma-informed lense, and assist with providing a nourishing recovery relationship where I can help you build on the strengths you already have, set goals, discuss problem-solving techniques, and build on coping skills.  We can get to know each other and chat about the topics which would benefit you most.

I've done years of various outpatient behavioral therapy and programs myself, and found that having sessions with my choice of Peer Support have been most beneficial for my well being, for peers can relate on another level beyond most clinical settings.   I can show you the hope, strength, and resilience you can tap into within, to build on your self-empowerment and grow into your most fulfilled life in recovery.

Explain to members what areas you feel are your biggest strengths?

My greatest strengths as a peer supporter are my respectful and empathetic active listening skills, and my recognition of the importance of self-advocacy.  I believe we are all our own best advocates, and sometimes, it takes meaningful relationships in recovery to ignite the bravery to advocate for oneself in certain settings.  I also understand the importance of self-care and community engagement in daily life, and can delve into with you, the habits and routines which consistently help loved ones and I, the most. I am absolutely enthralled to be here of service to you along your recovery and wellness journey!
